Colombia, as I said before, is a land full of amazing things, we have talked about landscapes, outdoor activities, mountains, regions, people, food, many, many things, and I think we can go on and on and on, and that’s exactly what I want to do.
In this opportunity, I want to tell y’all about Colombia’s volcanoes, Colombia has 16 volcanoes, some remains still active and others are not longer in activity, it is an adventure to go up in the volcanoes, a lot people do it, and here and going to give you top 4 volcanoes, to visit.
“Volcan del totumo”, Cartagena.
Located 45- minutes bus ride from Cartagena’s old city, this is a must if you come to the colonial city, it’s a very popular, and very demanded activity by locals and tourists, is a fun place to go. This used to be an active volcano, but not at day is not longer active, people come here to jump into the mud, and have a great time “swimming” in the mud in the crater, it is often say that this mud have great benefits for skin’s health.
People come take a bath at the mud and later they go swimming to the ocean right behind it. You should arrange your visit through local hotels or hostels which can arrange for you a journey with local companies, which often offer lunch at the site. It just takes half day to go and get back to keep visiting the beautiful Cartagena de Indias.

Azufral volcano (Azufral de Túquerres)
Is a stratovolcano in southern Colombia with a 2.5x3 km wide caldera, it is located 35 km south west of Galeras volcano. The last eruption took place about 1000 years ago.

Cumbal, Volcano
Cumbal volcano is an active glacier-capped stratovolcano in south west Colombia, located 25 km south west of Azufral volcano and 5.5 km north east of the town of Cumbal.
Cumbal is southern most active and highest volcano of Colombia that has erupted in historic times; Famous for its fumaroles, its perpetual snows and its imposing figure, from its top you can see the snowy Ecuadorians, the populations of the south of Nariño and the forest of the pacific and to the bottom of the horizon an always blue ocean.
Chiles, Volcano
Located in the Andean cordillera, in the border between Colombia and Ecuador, recognized by its indigenous roots. Its vertical walls of pure rock make it a challenge for mountaineers, at their feet and amid thousands of frailejones, steaming hot springs rise, which according to the Indians who guard it serve to cure diseases of the body and relax the soul. From its summit you can see the Cotopaxi and Cayambe volcanoes of the neighboring country of Ecuador.
This journey is a true challenge for those wanting to visit the volcano, take comfortable shoes, clothe, water, sun glasses, back pack, there are more stuff, but this is essentially what you would need.
